FCC tickets more FM-band pirates
From today’s TRI Newsletter: FCC agents have had a busy Summer with their direction finders, and here are some of the recent Notices of Unlicensed Operation to fly out the Commission’s regional offices. In San Jose, both the alleged operator of a 104.3 and the owner of the building are sent NOVs. In pirate-infested south Florida, the FCC cites an unlicensed 92.7 in Hollywood and a 95.9 in Miami. In Colorado City, Texas, the Dallas office found a 104.1 operating with no license. In Howell, Michigan, there was an alleged pirate signal at 88.5. In Puerto Rico, the FCC’s San Juan office caught a 98.1 running out of the back room of a church in Caguas, and a 91.7 in Rio Grande. And in Brooklyn, agents detected a 99.9 and sent notices to both the resident and the building owner. The joyriders could be headed toward a $10,000 fine if they don’t sign off. In Florida, they could also be subject to state prosecution.
