Fired Kansas City DJ's fire back with age discrimination lawsuit

justicescalesWhen Kansas City's KYYS-FM (99.7) announced a format change in January, they fired their on-air staff. However, the 4 jocks are not ready to turn off their microphones. Former longtime morning hosts Max Floyd & Tanna Guthrie, midday host Traci Martens (aka Traci Wilde), and afternoon host Slacker (aka Brian Adams) allege in a lawsuit against parent company Entercom Communications that they were cut loose because of their ages. Entercom flipped KYYS from "classic rock" to "The Boulevard," playing what has been called "quality rock" music. The Kansas City Star reports the claim (in EEOC filings) that "the format actually did not change." Entercom VP/Market Manager David Alpert released a statement saying that "Unfortunately, KY's ratings had been on the decline for several years and we felt required this format change." Floyd spent 50 years in radio and is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
