Florida police & FCC shut down a pirate station in Winter Haven, Florida
Acting on information supplied by the FCC, deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department went to a Winter Haven address and shut down a pirate station operating at 87.9FM, and seized some broadcasting equipment. At the location, police arrested 32-year old Anthony Davis, charging him with unlawful transmission of radio frequency – a third-degree felony – along with a motor vehicle violation. Davis is alleged to have operated “One Love Radio,” playing reggae music. The FM signal being used was interfering with WKMG-TV, which uses that frequency to broadcast the audio of their TV station.
