Former Sirius executive Joe Clayton is the new President/CEO of Dish Network

Clayton had already worked in consumer electronics with RCA, General Electric and Thomson before joining startup Sirius Satellite Radio in 2001, the year before it launched. He served its CEO from 2001 until 2004 and then Chairman (working with Mel Karmazin) from 2004 to 2008. Now The Hollywood Reporter says that Dish Network principal Charlie Ergen is ceding the roles of president and CEO as of June 20. Ergen continues as Chairman of Dish, and Wells Fargo analyst Marci Ryvicker sees the change as the satellite TV service being "in good enough shape for Charlie to feel comfortable handing over the reins to someone else." Clayton says he has worked with Ergen in various capacities for nearly two decades. He left Sirius as it merged into rival XM Satellite Radio, with Karmazin as the surviving chief executive. In a way, the job continues his connection to the broader radio industry, since many Dish subscribers use it to supply their Internet service at home.
