Fred Grandy's Washington, D.C. non-compete with Citadel lasts through May '12

Fred Grandy The reasons for the exit of the "Grandy Group" principal from talk WMAL (630) are in dispute, but his wife, Catherine Mann-Grandy, tells Fox News that the result is that he isn't allowed on the air in the D.C. market for another 14 months. She says she and Fred would like create a talk show focusing on radical Islam, and the degree to which she says it has penetrated the ranks of people who work in government. Mann-Grandy says her own regular appearances on her husband's morning show talking about supposed “Shariah-compliant” people triggered the showdown that led to his exit. According to her, WMAL asked Fred to de-emphasize the radical Islam angle and to keep her off the show. Citadel has a different version of the story: “At no time has WMAL told Fred that he was not allowed to discuss his views on Islam over the air. In fact, he has done so on numerous occasions.” On a related point, Citadel also says WMAL “has not been contacted by any organization seeking to restrict his broadcasts.”
