FTC to distribute $3 million in refunds to buyers of the radio-advertised "infrared sauna" from Roex

The sauna and and/or accompanying dietary supplements were touted in radio infomercials as effective treatments or preventatives for ailments as widely varied as cancer, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, MS, diabetes and herpes. The announcement about the refunds comes a year after the March 2009 FTC complaint charging Roex and two principals with “making false or unsubstantiated advertising claims.” Roex proclaimed its virtues on its website and in print, but the FTC says “the marketers' main advertising vehicle was a nationally-broadcast live, hour-long radio program titled ‘The Truth About Nutrition.’” The $3 million is coming from the defendants in the case, and the average consumer will get a check for about $500. Read more about Roex and the settlement at the Federal Trade Commission site, here.
