Google announces its long-rumored music streaming service, now in Beta

Google Two major announcements from Google at today's I/O Conference, as reported by Ars Technica: First, movie rentals streamed from the Android Market, which is Google's answer to Apple's iTunes. Second, an invitation-only version of Google's "Music Beta", allowing lucky users to upload as many as 20,000 songs to the "cloud" (music.google.com). They can access a tune via any Android device, or (as Ars Technica says) "pin it to the device for local storage." With the cloud-based system, users don't need to store music on their own personal device and don't have to buy songs to play them on a different device. For now, Beta Music is free.
