"Google, Schmoogle"

Saga Communications CEO Ed Christian tells the NAB's Dickstein Shapiro session "the roadside is littered with interlopers who try to come into" radio, and he believes Google's online ad-selling plan and similar ventures "distract us" from focusing on the basics of radio. Greater Media's Peter Smyth agrees that "We need to stay focused on what core business we're in" - especially when it comes to holding the line on pricing radio advertising. But Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan, who's already partnering with Google, says "We'll take some chances" to help convert companies into new advertisers.
