Hip-hop battle breaks out in Austin, where Clear Channel launches "Beat 105.9"
KFMK, Round Rock drops its 2-½ year old rhythmic AC “Jammin' 105.9” position to more directly confront Emmis' “Hot 93.3” KDHT. Hot ranked #4 in the Spring Arbitron, total week 12+ AQH share. Jammin' was #16. New core artists for the hip-hop-focused Beat include Pitbull, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Drake and Jay Z. Clear Channel Market Manager Pamela McKay says “As the makeup of Austin’s population grows in diversity, we know this mass appeal format will super-serve our growing community as well as the needs of the advertisers.” The new website is here and the Beat is immediately available through Clear Channel’s iheartradio.com. The San Antonio/Austin Board of Radio-Info caught this morning’s flip as it happened – discussion is here.
