"Hold your P for a Wii" has nothing to do with drinking
Peoria's WPIA had a Nintendo Wii Game System to give away - and they wanted to do something creative, but were acutely aware of last year's water-contest death at KDND, Sacramento, in a morning-show promotion titled "Hold your wee for a Wii." That led to the firing of ten staffers and a a wrongful death lawsuit. Peoria's Kiss FM PD Don Black tells Radio-Info that "We got a lot of fallout over the name [the "P"]...but in our contest, you have to hold a large wooden letter P' over your head, and the last one holding the big letter wins the Wii. People thought you had to drink something, but that is not the case." Why that particular letter? "The wooden letter 'P' stands for Peoria." Black said they're still giving away the Wii, but due to the fallout, they've changed the name to "You Can Win a Wii by Holding a 'P.'"
