Honorees at NAB/Vegas: Kerby Confer, Eddie Fritts, Hal Jackson, Marty Pompadur, Bruce Reese
Those five broadcasters plus veteran communications attorney Wade Hargrove will be presented with Ward L. Quaal Pioneer Awards at the annual Broadcasters Foundation of America breakfast at the Bellagio, Wednesday, April 14. Kerby Confer (“CON-fur”) is familiar from Forever Broadcasting and Keymarket. Eddie Fritts ran the National Association of Broadcasters for 23 years and was a longtime advocate for radio and TV on the Hill. Hal Jackson broke the color barrier numerous times at radio and TV and in his tenth decade, is still heard regularly on WBLS, New York (107.5). Martin Pompadur has been involved in various radio and TV groups and is currently an executive VP of News Corporation, and president of its Eastern and Central Europe division. Bruce Reese is the president and CEO of Salt Lake City-based Bonneville International and a former NAB Radio and Joint Board Chairman. The Ward L. Quaal Pioneer Awards are underwritten by the Hubbard Broadcasting Foundation and the McCormick Foundation, and the breakfast is sponsored by the National Association of Media Brokers, Frank N. Magid Associates, and Arbitron. The Wednesday morning breakfast is complimentary, with pre-registration requested by April 2. Email info@thebfoa.org. The mission of the Broadcasters Foundation is to help broadcasters in need. More about its work here.
