Howard Stern super-fan "Captain Janks" gets 8 years' probation for ripping off Pennsylvania clubs

Stern-show prankster “Captain Janks” will not have to go to jail, but will spend the next eight years on probation, after a judge found him guilty of multiple counts of theft by deception – i.e., not showing for club gigs he had been paid for. “Captain Janks,” whose real name is Thomas M. Cipriano, pleaded guilty to 15 incidents over a three year-span involving 13 different businesses. Cipriano will also have to pay $5,926.70 in restitution. He blamed his troubles on an addiction to prescription drugs. As a part of his probation, Cipriano will have to undergo random drug testing. Janks is highly skilled at scamming TV and radio show producers, often calling in during crises posing as an eyewitness. Once gets on the air, he ends a bit by yelling out “Bababooey” – a Stern pet phrase.
