Illinois political talker Dan Proft to run for Governor
The conservative political commentator for Chicago’s WLS-AM (890) is putting aside his microphone and joining a very crowded Republican field to run for governor in 2010. In 2004, Proft was an aide to U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes, who lost to then-Senate candidate Barack Obama in 2004. On his campaign website, Proft proclaims, “Illinois Isn’t Broke – It’s Fixed,” and released a statement saying, “to argue that Illinois’ problems are simply a function of bad management is like saying the Soviet Union failed because the wrong guys were on the Politburo.” Proft is the fourth person to officially announce their candidacy for the GOP nomination next year, and a number of others are sizing up a run for the Governor’s office.
