In Yakima, Washington, staffers strike over 2 fired co-workers

The only thing airing over the weekend on non-com KDNA-FM (91.9) was static. Workers of the Spanish-language station were outside the building holding picket signs, protesting the firing of two workers, allegedly for trying to unionize the staff. The Yakima Herald-Republic says the “Radio Cadena” staff walked the picket line on Saturday, joined by “scores of KDNA listeners” who showed up to support them. KDNA night supervisor Manuel López told the newspaper, “We are no longer getting the respect we deserve, we no longer have a voice here.” The station plans to have programming on Monday, whether the workers return or not. The fate of the two fired workers is in the hands of the National Labor Relations Board, which is expected to render a decision on their fate soon.
