Jessica Rosenworcel, Ajit Pai nominated as new FCC Commissioners

FCC The FCC is authorized to have five Commissioners, including three of the party that controls the White House, and it will soon be down to just three. Now the Administration and Republican leaders agree on a slate of one Democrat and one Republican nominee, to be considered together by the Senate. They are:

- Jessica Rosenworcel, a former staffer for Democratic Commissioner Michael Copps, who will soon be leaving the agency.

- Ajit Pai, a former Senate Judiciary Committee chief counsel and Justice Department official. Pai's name was in consideration the last time there was a Republican vacancy, in 2009, when Meredith Attwell Baker was chosen. Baker resigned this Spring in a controversial decision to join Comcast as its chief Washington government relations executive.

Both Rosenworcel and Pai are subject to Senate confirmation. Current FCC Chair Julius Genachowski welcomes both nominations, and the NAB calls them "two talented individuals with a commitment to public service."
