Jobs in journalism are even more difficult to find

no job

Anyone looking for a job in radio knows they’re few and far between. A study performed by the University of Georgia shows only 55.5% of 2009 journalism and communication graduates with a bachelor degree were able to find full-time work within a year of leaving school. The survey followed over 2,700 journalism and mass communication students who graduated in 2009, and the results show the lowest level of full-time employment in the 24-year history of the study. Just two years ago, the same survey found 70% of graduates tracked found work within one year of graduation, covering all facets of journalism, including radio. The report also found a disturbing trend – showing the hiring of minorities was just under 49% for 2009, while non-minorities were hired at a rate of almost 64%, a gap that has tripled since 2008 and which was the widest gap ever reported in this hiring study.
