John Landecker back to WLS, Chicago – this time to weekends on oldies WLS-FM
Cumulus Media Chicago President/GM Michael Damsky says "For anyone who knows Chicago radio, there's just something about John Records Landecker and WLS that just sounds right together." Robert Feder reports in TimeOut Chicago that Landecker will be heard this coming weekend doing 10am-3pm on both Saturday and Sunday, on oldies WLS-FM (94.7). Landecker originally worked with Jan Jeffries, the Chicago-based Senior VP of programming for Cumulus Media, in the mid-1980s, at then-WAGO. Landecker did mornings there. It appears that Jeffries may now want Landecker, who gained fame at then-Top 40 WLS (890), to do more than weekends and occasional fill-ins. But there are no announced plans yet. Landecker jokingly says "I am so excited, I've been practicing the call letters all week." Among other honors received by Landecker: He is in the radio wing of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Feder notes that "during the week, he continues to host afternoons on WIMS (1420) near his home in Michigan City, Indiana." The Chicago Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about Landecker's return to WLS.
