Jonathan Ross listeners are MIA and BBC Radio 1 is king in the latest England ratings

The big surprise in the latest RAJAR ratings in England is the exodus of listeners for BBC Radio 2’s Jonathan Ross. Figures show the controversial Ross lost nearly 200,000 listeners during the quarter and over 500,000 this year. Thanks to BBC Radio 1’s morning host Chris Moyles, Radio 1 listenership reached a 9-year high, with 7.72 million people tuning in daily. More surprising, according to the Independent newspaper, were the gains by Classic FM and BBC Radio 3, which both play classical music. The newspaper speculates hard economic times are turning listeners towards soothing music. For the latest RAJAR report, click here.
