Journal Broadcast Group VP/Programming Tom Land dies of cancer at 51
Land had been in hospice, dealing with a lung cancer that was diagnosed last August, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The paper says, "The first clue that something was wrong came in Memphis, as he was running through the airport during a business trip and felt a sudden stabbing pain in his lower back." His Milwaukee doctor diagnosed it as Stage 4 lung cancer that had metastasized to his bones. Land, the respected Vice President of Programming for the 32 stations of Journal Broadcast Group, was born in Smithville, Missouri, and joined Milwaukee-based Journal in 2000, as director of operations in Omaha, and became Director of Radio Programming for the 32-station group in 2006. He died Thursday.
