Kantar Media reports that radio revenue expanded an average 1.3% in Q1
Kantar's estimates of advertising spending across all U.S. media put cable TV up 31%, helped along by the NCAA "March Madness" men's basketball tournament. Internet display ad-spend grew 14.6%, while consumer magazines grew 6.2%, in "a revival that started in mid-2010."
For radio, "The pace of spending softened a bit during the first three months. Local Radio was up 3.4%, as higher budgets from auto dealers and insurance marketers offset weaker activity from local retailers, telecom and restaurants." The Kantar Media study finds the same pattern in local vs. national that the RAB's own May 19 report did - that national trailed local. The Radio Advertising Bureau had network revenue flat, while Kantar shows national down 3.3%, "compared to a stellar year-ago period when ad spending grew by double digits." Note that Kantar and the RAB break out radio's revenues in different ways. Check the Kantar Media report on January-February-March ad spending in the U.S. here.
