Kirkman buys two S.C. FM stations; already LMAing both

Charleston, S.C.’s Kirkman Broadcasting is paying $2.5 million for two FM stations that it already commandeers LMAs for: classic hits WWIK (Fun 98.9) McClellanville, S.C., a C2 that comes toward Charleston from further up the coast; and black gospel WJNI Ladson, S.C., a Class A at 106.3 that originates northwest of Charleston. Owner Thomas B. Daniels peddled “Fun 98.9” for $1.1 million and WJNI (calls: “With Jesus, Nothing’s Impossible”) for $1.4 million. Kirkman already owns four local AMs—sports WQNT (Sports Radio 1450), sports WJKB (950), sports WTMZ (910 The Team) and oldies WQSC-AM (1340 The Boardwalk). These are Guilford Kirkman, Jr.’s first FMs. Seller Daniels still has such low-power TV interests as WAZS-LP, North Charleston, plus the Spanish contemporary radio simulcast of WAZS Summerville (980) and WZJY Mt. Pleasant (1480).
