Labor Day weekend radio format changes are piling up

change

In San Diego-Tijuana, XHMORE (98.9) has made the expected transition from English-language all-sports to Spanish rock, returning to a format it did several years ago. Along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the worries about Hurricane Earl aren’t stopping East Carolina Radio’s WOBX, Manteo (98.1) from beginning its journey away from rock, starting with a temporary simulcast of classic rock sister WOBR-FM, Wanchese (95.3). Some locals predict an eventual classic hits format at 98.1. Further up the Eastern Seaboard, there’s speculation about a change at the Jersey Shore on Labor Day Monday. And in Duluth-Superior, there’s a second format flip this week, says NorthPine.com. That’s at Red Rock Radio’s “Lite 92.1” AC WWAX, Hermantown, MN. It’s now a hot AC dubbed “NU 92.” Check it out here. Earlier this week, Midwest Communications converted same-market KHQG (102.5) from classic rock to CHR under new calls of KDWZ – and the Twin Ports market already has a hot AC in Townsquare Media’s “Mix 108” KBMX.
