L.A.'s "Cat" is here at 103.1 – in Spanish, on El Gato
The Radio-Info boards accurately predicted this last Wednesday night – that Entravision would take its quirky alternative “Indie 103.1” format off of simulcast twins KDLD, Santa Monica and KDLE, Newport Beach – and spring its newest regional Mexican format variation, named “El Gato.” Entravision just recently put its first “El Gato” on the air in El Paso on KYSE (94.7). In Los Angeles, El Gato will compete in an already-crowded spectrum of regional Mexican stations. Those include SBS-owned “La Raza” KLAX at 97.9 (a 3.6 in the December PPMs), Univision’s “La Nueva” KSCA at 101.9 (a 3.4) and Liberman’s “Que Buena” KBUA/KBUE at 105.5/94.3 (a 3.0). The site for “El Gato” is here. Meanwhile, Entravision promises to keep “Indie 103.1” going online, and you can see that here. It says “In true Indie fashion, these DJs have offered to continue their labor of love and host their shows on-line. The current list includes: Passport Approved with Sat Bisla, Retrograde with Scott Dallavo, Harmony In My Head with Henry Rollins, Complete Control with Joe Sib, Neon Noise with Paul V, Chaos with Full Metal Jackie, Reggae Smoke In with Native Wayne, Barely Legal with Joe Escalante, and Suicide Girls with Missy Suicide.” The Los Angeles board is ablaze with speculation about 103.1 – and that’s here.
