Last day for Top 40 on Mobile's WABB-FM; Cumulus-owned 104.1 becomes "WABD"

WABB Mobile Update: The Alabama Board of Radio-Info.com reports that Cumulus-owned "Jack FM" WYOK (104.1) has changed call letters to "WABD." Is Cumulus planning to snatch the market's Top 40 franchise at midnight? Follow the conversation on the Board, here.

"K-Love" network parent Educational Media Foundation is buying the station from the Dittman family for $3.1 million, and the Top 40 format that has existed there since 1973 will be gone when the LMA begins at midnight. The question is, how will competitors react? A poster on the North Florida Board of Radio-Info.com reports that "a few minutes ago I was listening to [Cumulus' WYOK, Atmore at 104.1] and in between songs they played a liner saying 'Be listening [tonight] at midnight for some changes on 104.1.'" WYOK is variety hits "Jack FM." Now the speculation is that Cumulus is either playing some mindgames with the radio market, or it might be planning to seize the Top 40 format. One thing for sure: EMF will install its own non-commercial Christian music programming on 97.5. The WABB thread on the Alabama Board of Radio-Info.com is here.
