Last.FM loses Warner Music; Will charge for services in some countries
Warner Music Group has pulled its music from on-demand music streaming service Last.FM, a division of CBS. But, Warner artists can still be heard on Last.FM’s artist-based station, because those songs are licensed separately, under a different deal, according to AllAboutJazz.com. The licensing went south after Warner and Last.FM could not come to terms on licensing fees for on-demand playback. In related news, Last.FM has also announced it will charge a monthly subscription fee to users outside of the U.S., Britain, and Germany. It has offered a subscription option in the states that removes advertising and adds “playback flexibility", and now, that fee becomes mandatory for users in other “unsupported” countries, due to lower ad rates that can not cover Last.FM’s costs.
