Latest FCC auction of FM construction permits yields just $5.25 million
11 of the 85 permits that found bidders went for $5,000 or less, including a $1,500 winning bid for a new Class C3 at Rocksprings, TX. The highest bid was $518,000, for a new Class A at Murrieta in Riverside, County, CA. This morning’s T-R-I newsletter says that Audion Communications (Dale Ostler) was the winner there, in a 12-round competition with United States CP LLC. Bidding was considerably more restrained than in past FCC auctions. For example, the March 2007 Auction #70 produced nearly $25 million for the FCC and a total of 111 winning bids. This time, 37 permits didn’t find a bidder, despite the fact that several parties registered to compete for all 122 permits in the auction.
