Listeners react critically to Steve Cochran's departure from WGN, Chicago
Listeners had no clue as to what happened immediately after Steve Cochran ended his Friday midday talk shift on WGN-AM (720), until he posted the events on his Facebook page. Cochran wrote, “So how was your day? At about 245p as I exited the men’s room (seems fitting) I was summoned to a meeting where I was sheepishly told today was my last at WGN.” Since then, Cochran has received over 145 comments to that particular post on Facebook. Someone who also posted his comments on the social networking site is former WGN morning host Spike O'Dell, who wrote, “as long as they are making all these changes, I hope they will change the call letters too. It is certainly no longer the station that mid-America knows and trusts. I don’t know if I am mad or sad.” The writing was literally on Cochran’s wall regarding his departure, as his contract was ending and WGN had already announced they were adding Cincinnati’s WLW-AM (700) Mike McConnell, during the same time slot as Cochran. Rumors continue to circulate about the status of John Williams, who currently airs on WGN from 9am-1pm.
