"Lock-up your daughter" ads cause outrage in Ottawa
Ushering in the arrival of Virgin Radio to Ottawa on CKQB-FM (106.9), billboards and bus ads sprang up in Canada’s capital city showing a pregnant young woman with the slogan, “Lock up your daughters, the gods of rock are now in Ottawa.” After receiving a number of complaints, including postings on Facebook calling the ads sexist & offensive, Virgin Radio is pulling them. Virgin Radio Ottawa PD Pete Travers tells the Ottawa Citizen newspaper, “We serve the citizens of Ottawa and there were definitely some people who took offense to our advertising campaign. It was not our intention to offend anybody.” You can listen to Virgin Radio Ottawa by clicking here.
