Lou Dobbs leaves CNN – immediately
Update: Today, CNN says Dobbs will be replaced by journalist John King for the 7pm Eastern time cable show. Lou Dobbs' contract isn’t up until year-end 2011, says the New York Times. But Dobbs told his staff today that he’s leaving now, and he disclosed his departure plans to viewers on his nightly cable show. His quote will leave a lot of people wondering where he’s going next: “Some leaders in the media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and engage in constructive problem-solving.” That doesn’t sound like the rumored jump to Fox, which quickly denied it has been in discussions with one of CNN’s marquee talents. Dobbs has been featured on CNN since Ted Turner put it on the air in the early 1980s, except for the two years when he left to devote his time to the Space.com site. Dobbs continues to host his daily afternoon radio show for United Stations. That debuted in March 2008, and the syndicator tells Radio-Info that there’s “no change – everything will continue as is, with the daily Lou Dobbs Show, the Lou Dobbs Financial Reports, and the Best of Lou Dobbs on the weekend.” The National TV Board of Radio-Info is holding a lively discussion about Dobbs here.
