Louisville's classic hits "Louie 100.5" goes "Gen X"

This is something new for Clear Channel, and perhaps a new branding for radio. Here’s market president Bill Gentry’s description of “Gen X Radio”: “It’s focused on a musical experience”, with music from the 80s and 90s that “crosses cultures from grunge, hip-hop, hair bands, boy bands and more.” Artists range widely, from U2, Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Band to Eminem and Madonna. Clear Channel says the presentation style of the new WLGX will be “irreverent unpredictability.” Clear Channel’s Senior VP of Programming Jon Zellner says the idea is to “capture how 30-somethings listen to music, and it ignores genres and categories. This is the music that shaped a generation of pop music fans.” The Kentucky Board of Radio-Info.com had this one pegged, starting with the call letters (changing WLUE to WLGX) and then website registrations. Check out the concept and listen online at GenXLouisville.com, here. Talk about the change on the Kentucky Board of Radio-Info, here.
