Mark Mays pegs the number of Clear Channel layoffs at 1,850
That’s “across corporate, outdoor and radio”, and they constitute about 9% of the San Antonio-based company’s total work force. Mays says “these have been difficult decisions, yet necessary ones”, to position Clear Channel as “a solid company and in the most competitive position possible.” He tells employees that “we need to remain highly entrepreneurial and innovative” and that “everyone in our investor group, on the board and in the executive leadership team remains bullish about the long-term growth prospects” for Clear Channel outdoor and radio. The layoffs – including the “realignment in our sales departments” – are in-line with earlier news reports and with the predictions of Radio-Info’s daily T-R-I newsletter, which first pegged the layoffs as being timed to Inauguration Day back on January 12. It takes just 30 seconds to subscribe to T-R-I, at no charge, here.
