Minnesota Public Radio is going to court over a railroad project

MPR is at odds with the Metropolitan Council over its light rail project, due to concerns over noise and building protection in St. Paul. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, MPR claims the Met Council has not lived up to agreements it signed less than a year ago. MPR is concerned about its own building, along with two historic churches in the same area where the proposed rail line is going through. The public radio group claims the Council originally agreed to use steel springs to isolate train vibrations, but instead wants to install less expensive rubber pads. A Metropolitan Council spokesman, claiming rubber pads is the current standard, says the MPR lawsuit “has no merit, none, and we will prevail. We will fight this vigorously.” The light rail line is expected to be operational by 2014.
