Mobile Listenership on the Rise
Mobile Posse has released a survey showing that listening to music on the radio and on mobile devices is now about equal. The survey reports that 60% of consumers listen to music on the go and when it comes to listening online, 35% of them chose Pandora as their number one online source. Mobile Posse points out that 89 million listeners tune in weekly to online radio, but only 63% say they would consider paying for a music service, while 20% adamantly refuse. "Mobile is becoming a clear leader in music consumption, as it provides numerous channels for listening to and discovering new music," said Nathan Hamme, Analyst with Mobile Posse. Finally, the study shows that mobile devices have empowered the consumer and the music industry is adapting to this newfound strength.
