More format flips ahead on the Jersey Shore

change

Last week, it was Millennium Radio’s WADB-AM (1310) that dropped sports to become the simulcast station for WOBM-AM (1160), which flipped from nostalgia to oldies. Now, Press Communications apparently has plans of their own in the Monmouth & Ocean County market. The experiment with CHR seems to be ending for Eatontown, New Jersey’s WHTG-FM (106.3). Eighteen months after flipping from rock music to CHR, a format change seems to be inevitable. WHTG PD Matt Knight was cut loose yesterday, fueling the speculation. Knight wrote on the Radio-Info New Jersey board, “I will not be a part of the new station as I've been relieved of my positions both on-air and in management.” Adding to it are rumors that “Thunder” country will be the next format to grace WHTG-FM, which may be heard on Press’s 106.3 & 106.5 frequencies. The website domain name “thunder106.com” has been taken. Even more telling, a link to “B-98.5” brings you to “B-98.5 – the Jersey Shore’s #1 Hit Music Station.” The 98.5 signal on the Jersey Shore as of Wednesday morning belongs to the country music format of Press-owned “Thunder” WKMK-FM (98.5). Changes are expected as soon as Thursday. The Radio-Info New Jersey board has two threads discussing the WHTG and ‘Thunder" changes – Discuss it.
