More than 20 to be cut when the takeover happens next week at Pittsburgh's WDUQ
The news isn't good for more than 20 on-air and off-air staffers of Pittsburgh's non-commercial WDUQ-FM (90.5). It is expected that more than 20 workers will be handed pink slips when Essential Public Media officially takes over operations of the Duquesne University station at midnight on June 30. According to the Post-Gazette, only business manager Vicky Rumpf and interim-GM Fred Serino will remain during the transition. Starting July 1, Essential Public Media will officially take over operations of WDUQ through a local marketing agreement (LMA), pending final FCC approval of the deal which is expected in the next two months. It is not clear whether Essential Public Media might re-hire some of the WDUQ staffers, though it intends to substantially re-format the station away from jazz to news and talk.
