Moscow talk host fired for his "Hitler" comparison
A talk show host for Vesti-FM in Moscow, Russia has been fired for on-air comments, which compared St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko to Adolf Hitler. Dmitry Gubin was told after his show that he was fired. Vesti FM's general producer Anatoly Kuzichev tells the Moscow Times that Gubin was fired for "impermissible on-air style," which he says included the phrase, "Sieg Heil, dear Valentina Ivanovna." In his defense, Gubin tells the newspaper that he fears his firing will raise concerns about free speech, and stands by his statements and his "Hitler" comparison. The Moscow Times says Gubin, who had been on Vesti-FM since August, had already been warned "a couple of times" for what he has said on the air.
