NAB board explains possible settlement terms with the music industry

Today’s webcast explains upfront to members that there is no deal in place with the music industry over a performance royalty. But they want the membership to “make a decision based on fact, and not rumor or innuendo" about the various terms in the package. That package includes the music industry’s support for putting FM radio chips in cell phones, as well as lowering the rates for streaming music, and fixing the performance royalty rate for terrestrial broadcasts at no more than 1% of revenues. The NAB tells members they “can expect this to be a never-ending battle in future Congresses” that will “impede movement” of other initiatives that broadcasters want.
