New AM/FM radio receiver boasts it's the "first commercial radio with ham band"
The C. Crane model CCRadio-2 can’t transmit like a licensed ham radio unit. But it can receive transmissions in the 2-meter band, where a person stranded without AM or FM service by a natural disaster could at least hear the first-responders and the local authorities. California-based C. Crane Company says it’s the first commercial AM/FM unit that also provides ham-band monitoring capability. The twin-coil ferrite AM antenna provides better-than-usual reception of distant signals – another possible life-saver. List price is $159.95 and there’s more about the CCRadio-2 at the C. Crane website here.
