New April PPMs: Baseball pays off for many flagships
Arbitron's just-issued April People Meter results show immediate fan enthusiasm, in the first month of the season. For example: New York – Yankees flagship WCBS-AM (880) jumps 3.7 to 4.8 to tie CHR "Z100" WHTZ for third place, with age 6+ AQH shares. (#1 in the market: AC "Lite FM" WLTW, 7.6-7.0.)
Chicago – Cubs flagship WGN (720) improves 4.5 to 5.4, tying urban AC "V103" WVAZ for first place. WGN's cume jumped from about 950,000 in March to more than 1.4 million in April.
San Francisco – KNBR (680), the flagship of the reigning World Series champion Giants, jumped from a 2.5 to 4.4, nearly doubling its cume in one month, to about 940,000. (#1 in the market: non-com public radio news/talk KQED, 6.5 to 6.6.)
Philadelphia – Phillies flagship WPHT (1210) improves 2.2 to 3.6, with the cume more than doubling from 400,000 to about 925,000. (#1 this month again: all-news KYW/1060, beating AC "B101" WBEB 7.0-6.9.)
