New York and Chicago wait for Merlin Media's next moves
The debuts of new talk-based formats on 101.9 in New York and 101.1 in Chicago could come any time now, building on the newscasts that staffs in both markets have been delivering for the past two weeks. In Chicago, Robert Murphy and Lise Dominique did their last "temporary" morning show today, suggesting that the new format is not far off. Murphy was called back to the Chicago airwaves for what turned out to be a two-week stint. He was the highly-rated morning man on WKQX/Q101 for a decade, until he left in 1993 following a change in the music. Chicagoland Radio and Media suggests that the new WWWN (101.9) may not have its website ready yet, but is very close to transitioning away from the stunt hot AC format. The Chicago Board of Radio-Info.com is listening for any changes, here.
