New York's WFAN is holding a contest to find its next sports talk star
If you've ever wanted a chance to share a microphone with New York sports talkers like Mike Francesa, Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton, your chance is here. CBS Radio-owned “Fan” WFAN-AM (660) in New York City is holding a “Fantasy Phenom Challenge” to find their next host. WFAN OM & CBS Radio New York VP/Programming Mark Chernoff says, “We know jobs in radio are hard to come by but we’re doing our part to identify talent and give someone a shot to host their own show on the FAN.” The contest will include auditions in front of WFAN personnel at shopping malls in the New York area, followed by a second round of contests where the winners will go head-to-head. WFAN held a similar contest 15 years ago. The winner of that contest was a broadcasting school graduate and regular caller named Joe Benigno, who became the overnight host and now co-hosts the WFAN midday show.
