New Zealand sports talk host accused of being "abusive" on a plane

Martin Devlin MediaWorks-owned Radio Live weekend host Martin Devlin was alleged to be causing trouble on a Jetstar Airlines flight from Wellington to Auckland, New Zealand - so much so that the flight turned around and landed where it originated. Police were waiting for the flight upon its return. The New Zealand Herald reports that Devlin, who was once Radio Live's morning drive anchor and also hosts a show on Auckland's TV One, was being "abusive toward crew after the disruptions caused by fog," and as a precaution, the pilot turned the plane around and went back to Wellington. When passengers were allowed back on the plane, Devlin was not among them. A spokeswoman for the airline called the situation "standard procedure," and added "We did arrange for police to meet the aircraft back to Wellington for that particular passenger." Devlin told a different story, claiming the crew of the airplane "overreacted." Devlin, a four-time winner of the New Zealand Radio Awards "Sportscaster of the Year," was charged with disorderly conduct last December involving an incident with his wife, but those charges were dropped last month.
