Non-compete keeps fired Marty Tirrell from taking a new job in Des Moines
He was one of three people fired by Clear Channel’s KXNO-AM (1460) following an on-air tirade which included a number of “F-bombs.” While one of those fired, sports talk host Larry Cotlar, was hired by KXNO competitor KBGG-AM (1700), Marty Tirrell’s return to radio may be delayed until September. Citadel-owned KBGG arranged for Tirrell to host a two-hour show, which would have originated from a car dealership and not from the station’s studios. However, Clear Channel is blocking Tirrell, citing a non-compete clause in his former contract which does not expire until September 20, according to the Des Moines Register. The newspaper reports that KBGG will keep the slot open for Tirrell, who will attempt to work out the situation with Clear Channel. Geoff Conn, the show producer who was fired along with Cotlar and Tirrell, recently took a job with Grand View University.
