Payola investigation in McAllen-Brownsville

The FCC is getting more specific with its inquiry into the promotion of Spanish radio and music, launched last Fall. Now the McAllen Monitor newspaper reports that various Spanish-language stations in the taste-making market of McAllen-Brownsville have received letters from the Commission – and some may have already met with investigators. Entravision owns KNVO (101.1) and “Que Pasa 99.5” KKPS there, and confirms receipt of an FCC letter. Univision, which owns “La Tremenda” KGBT/1530, KGBT-FM (98.5) and “Recuerdo” KTBQ (96.1), didn’t comment to the paper. The Texas board of Radio-Info is interested in the topic, here.
