Performance royalty foes turn to Pelosi
A letter written to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by three different minority and civil rights organizations tells her that a new royalty would have a “devastating effect” on both minority broadcasters and their listeners. The groups ask that “all policy implications [be] fully vetted before this legislation is scheduled for consideration on the House floor.” And with the House Judiciary Committee passing the Performance Rights Act (H.R. 848) 21 to 9 – the House floor is the next battlefield. The letter signed by David Honig of the Minority Media & Telecommunications Council, Barbara Arnwine of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and Frank Montero of the Spanish Broadcasters Association is here.
