Philippine police arrest two "assassins" in the death of a radio host
Police in the Philippines have made an arrest in the murder of Niel "Lito" Jimena, who was gunned down in front of his home in Iloilo City, shot five times at close range. According to the Inquirer in Manila, police arrested two men they call "suspected professional assassins" in the case of Jimena, who was killed last year. Police made the arrest based upon eyewitness reports: the two men were allegedly not wearing masks. While no motive has been made clear in Jimena's killing, it was believed he was an informant for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the hit may not have had anything to do with this radio work. The Philippines is one of the most dangerous places for the media to operate, and there has been pressure brought against the government due to a number of unsolved murders of members of the news media and radio.
