Pittsburgh's hoped-for African-American news/talk station is stalled by illness

Former TV owner Eddie Edwards, Sr. was recently hospitalized, says the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and won’t proceed with his $500,000 purchase of WPYT (660) from Alex Langer. Edwards had stepped forward after the Davenport family sold the three urban stations of Sheridan Broadcasting to St. Joseph Missions, which plans to change WAMO-AM/FM (860/106.7) and WPGR (1510) to Catholic religious programming. Edwards' proposal was to put together a news/talk station focused on the local African-American community. Now the paper says he’s withdrawing his application to buy WPYT, Wilkinsburg, PA.
