Pittsburgh's WDUQ will soon become WESA-FM (90.5)
Essential Public Radio in Pittsburgh has announced they will change call letters from WDUQ-FM to WESA-FM, when the transfer of the station from Duquesne University is completed. It is expected that the sale and transfer will be finalized on or near September 15. The new call letters are not very new at all, and also familiar to Pittsburgh radio listeners. At one time, they belonged to an AM & FM station in the Pittsburgh suburb of Charleroi. Since the sale was announced, WDUQ has dropped jazz and music for an all-news public format. In addition, Essential Public Radio announced the hiring of former Aspen, Colorado non-commercial KAJX (91.5) news director Josh Raulerson, and Deanna Garcia comes in from non-commercial KUNC (91.5) in Greeley, Colorado where she was the host of their "All Things Considered" program.
