Portland, Oregon’s all-sports “Game” KXTG to shift from FM to AM
Alpha Broadcasting announces a double switch effective this coming Wednesday afternoon at 5pm Pacific time. #1, Talk KXL will move off its longtime AM frequency of 750, ending its simulcast with 101.1, and making 101.1 its only terrestrial radio home. #2, all-sports "The Game" will slide from 95.5 FM to take over the 750 frequency. That leaves 95.5 open, and neither Alpha programmer Brian Jennings nor market manager Bob Proffitt is talking about the company's plans. Jennings tells KXL listeners that research shows "sports on AM does very well across the country", making the case for the huge reach of a 50,000-watt daytime/20,000 watt nighttime signal on low-dial 750 AM. He says “it’s the best signal in the region by far, it reaches 3.4 million people, and you can hear it everywhere.” The websites at both KXL and The Game are running countdown clocks to the Wednesday switchover. See the website statement from Alpha Broadcasting here. Here at Radio-Info.com, the Oregon Board has been speculating about Alpha's next moves ever since April 25. The thread is here.
