Portland, Oregon's "Rock 101" KUFO is stunting
It appears the station will remain rock, but may lose its ingrained “Rock 101” image. Alpha Broadcasting already served notice that it would make changes at the station it acquired from CBS, by pinkslipping Rick Emerson (formerly mornings) and the afternoon Cort & Fatboy show. Now the on-air stunting says “the mother-ship is re-fueling” and sprinkles in clips from artists across many formats, from the Beatles to Garth Brooks, says the Oregon Media Central site. On the KUFO website, there’s a documentary-like 90-second video of an alien spaceship hovering over Portland. It says “Hello, people of Portland. This is the mother ship. The beast must be fed.” Then the annnouncer’s voiceover: “It’s going to be quick. It’s going to be clean. Most of all, it’s going to be loud.” The countdown clock on the site suggests an earthly event will happen at 7am on Wednesday morning. They’re talking about radio formats and spaceships on the Discussion Board of Radio-Info.
